Map Groups

Map groups organise related markers in Map Explorer’s legend. For example, you can create groups for Settlements, Forests, and Ruins, then assign each marker to the appropriate group.

Open the legend with the list button at the top left of Map Explorer. You can expand or collapse groups, search the marker list, and select any marker from it.

Create a group

Editors can create groups without leaving the map:

  1. Open the legend.

  2. Select Add group.

  3. Give the group a name and choose its colour.

  4. Optionally choose a parent group and where the group should appear among its siblings.

  5. Choose the legacy default-visibility option, set its visibility, and create it.

The group colour is shown beside the group and is used as the group indicator on marker details and when assigning a marker to a group.

Use the map’s regular edit page to edit, reorder, or remove existing groups. You can assign a group while creating or editing a marker in Map Explorer.

Fields

Colour

Every group has a colour. Choose one that makes the group easy to recognise in the legend and in marker details.

Parent group and placement

Groups can be nested. Select a Parent group to make the new group a child of another group, then choose whether it should appear first or after one of its siblings.

Show group markers

Show group markers is retained for the legacy map view, where it controls whether the group’s markers are visible by default. Map Explorer lists all markers in the legend.

Permissions

Groups have the standard visibility permission system, meaning you can make group only visible to your campaign admins, or only to yourself and hidden from the other admins of your campaign.

Limitations

Standard campaigns can have a maximum of one (1) group per map, while premium campaigns can have up to twenty (20).

There is currently no way to have more than twenty groups per map.
